The University has generous leave entitlements for staff which are detailed in the relevant Enterprise Agreement and related MOPP Policies, including:
PARENTAL LEAVE
QUT provides parental leave for staff in recognition that such leave is a basic necessity for all staff reconciling work and family responsibilities. The University will not refuse employment or dismiss a staff member, or take any other action that disadvantages a staff member on the grounds of pregnancy, possible pregnancy, a request for parental leave or a possible request for parental leave. RECREATION AND LONG SERVICE LEAVE
The University enables flexibility in leave arrangements by allowing eligible staff to take individual days (or even part days for recreation leave) or by allowing leave to be taken at very short notice to accommodate family and life responsibilities may reduce unplanned absenteeism, assist with the clearance of recreation and long service leave credits and may reduce the need for relief arrangements for longer absences. PERSONAL LEAVE
Access to personal leave is available for eligible staff for a range of circumstances, including:
- provision of care and support to family/household members who are ill;
- leave to adhere to and celebrate cultural or religious days of observance;
- leave to participate in major competitions;
- pregnancy-related medical checkups or illness;
- other special circumstances as approved by the relevant authorising officer.

SICK/ CARER'S AND COMPASSIONATE LEAVE
The University has provisions for paid and/or unpaid sick/carer’s and compassionate leave for staff to access in the event of personal illness or injury, or to provide care and support to an immediate family or household member who is ill or injured.

REDUCED WORKING YEAR SCHEME
All staff (excluding casual/ sessional staff) within a 12 month period may apply for up to 8 weeks paid leave in addition to the normal 4 weeks recreation leave, with a commensurate reduction in total salary rate for the 12 month period. Further information is available at:
