The Professional Development Leave Calculator (PDLCalc) is an Excel spreadsheet which automates the calculation of:

PDLCalc.xls can also be used to print / save a complete itinerary and financial description of a PDL program.

This document can be submitted to finance officers to expedite financial processes, and can serve as a description of the PDL program for committee meetings.

PDLCalc is designed to be used for PDL-Long programs, and follows the policy for PDL-Long, however it may also be used for PDL-Short programs depending on how such programs are processed within the School / Faculty. Click here for the PDLCalc Manual (.pdf, 46kb).

If the country you are travelling to is not listed in the PDL calculator, apply the lowest daily rate allowance.

Updated travel allowances for the PDLCalc are effective from 1 September each year.

Instructions

  1. Save the Excel spreadsheet to your computer.
  1. Open an Excel document. You will receive a macro security notification. For the calculator to operate, select "Enable Macros".

    NB: Ensure the macro setting for your machine is on "medium". To do this select from the Excel spreadsheet toolbar the following commands:

    1/ Tools
    2/ Macro
    3/ Security
    4/ Medium

    If you experience continual macro security notifications please contact your local Computer Services Officer (CSO) as the problem will be arise from your individual computer settings.
