Creative Industries Faculty

Creative Industries Faculty seeks a Technical Officer to provide a high standard of customer service to students and staff using technical facilities across the teaching and research programs of the Faculty. This position will mainly operate from the Creative Industries Equipment Loan Centre.

Salary: $42 233 to $44 435 pa; junior rates from $21 117 pa

DUTY STATEMENT

Purpose of Position

The Technical Officer provides a high standard of service as the first point of contact for students and staff seeking equipment, information and assistance from the Faculty Equipment Loan Centre. The position has primary responsibility for the daily operation of the equipment bookings and loans and is responsible for technical support of the faculty teaching and research areas in the Precinct.
The position is an integral part of the Technical Services team and is located in the Equipment Loans Centre (ELC) to meet staffing demands. The position holder is expected to broaden their knowledge of Faculty technical facilities in all disciplines.

Organisational Relationships

The position reports to the Senior Technical Officer – ELC for day-to-day guidance and supervision.
The position holder reports to the Team Leader Support Services & Projects for Performance Planning and Review.
The Technical Officer supports, on a day-to-day basis, the technical activities of the Faculty particularly as they apply to the administrative and support needs within the Technical Services section but also as they apply to the efficient functioning of the Equipment Loan Centre across diverse creative disciplines. The Officer works in a team environment and will undertake duties in technical areas of the faculty as required to assist with work overloads and providing back-up support for other staff in times of absence.

Duties include:

  • Issue equipment for staff and student use, and advise on safe handling and operation, providing customer service to staff and students from the ELC counter.
  • Work with unit co-ordinators to develop booking schedules for equipment usage across a number of disciplines and units.
  • Take reservations and bookings for equipment and rooms at the ELC counter, by phone and by e-mail.
  • Prepare field and studio equipment for student and staff use, for production, demonstration and tutorials.
  • Track overdue loans and contact patrons to negotiate returns.
  • Issue consumable stocks for staff and student use, track and stock take the use of consumables in the ELC.
  • Monitor the condition of all ELC loan equipment and take action to repair/maintain/replace where required.
  • Arrange and track maintenance and repairs of ELC loan equipment and other Technical Services equipment and facilities.
  • Accountable for complying with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.
  • Daily administration tasks as required in relation to the ELC and associated areas.
  • Other relevant approved duties as assigned by Senior Technical Officer – ELC.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to an associate diploma.
  2. Sound knowledge of the operation of production equipment in disciplines such as Film & Television, Theatre, Music and Sound, Journalism and Art & Design.
  3. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including experience interacting effectively with a diverse range of clients.
  4. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as a member of a team.
  5. Demonstrated planning, organisational and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to adapt in a changing environment.
  6. Commitment to continuous improvement of services and high quality client service provision.
  7. Well developed computer skills including competence with Microsoft Office applications, email and the internet.

Desirable:

  1. Sound knowledge of the principles of workplace health and safety from the worker’s perspective with a demonstrated ability to incorporate these principles in day to day tasks.
  2. Experience working in an educational environment.
  3. Some Audio Visual experience.
  4. Experience within resource management.

This position is fixed term and applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents or hold a temporary visa at the time of the closing date for the duration of the fixed term appointment allowing the applicant to work the required hours set out for the period of the fixed term appointment.
