Station Security Officer, Facilities Management

The Security Officer assists in the efficient operation of the security Central Monitoring Station by vigilant operation of the CCTV, security surveillance, communications and access control equipment. The position is responsible for ensuring that responses to security alarms, public safety matters and calls for assistance are appropriate and documented.

Salary: $36 982 to $41 135 pa; junior rates from $18 492 pa

DUTY STATEMENT

Purpose of Position

The primary responsibility of the Station Security Officer is to assist in the efficient operation of the security Central Monitoring Station (CMS). The position reports to the Station Security Supervisor.

Duties include:

  • Ensure that responses to alarms, fires, medical emergencies and calls for assistance are appropriate and in accordance with Security Operating Procedures.
  • Bring to the immediate attention of the Security Manager, or his delegate any matter of priority, emergency or potential risk to life and property.
  • Provide adequate support and guidance to the Campus Security Officers after hours.
  • Process incoming telephone enquiries effectively, ensuring a high rate of customer satisfaction.
  • Provide full and accurate reports of all incidents and events that occur on QUT campuses.
  • Conduct regular checks of all electronic security equipment in the CMS.
  • Perform the programming, data input, operation and maintenance of the CMS systems.
  • Perform constant and vigilant monitoring of the CCTV and other security surveillance, communications and access control equipment.
  • Accountable for complying with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.
  • Other relevant duties within the classification level as directed by the Station Security Supervisor.


SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  1. Education, training and/or relevant experience to a year 12 standard of education in conjunction with relevant work related experience.
  2. Ability to deal effectively with clients by reacting calmly under stressful critical incident situations.
  3. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively, both orally and in writing, including the ability to produce timely reports.
  4. Ability to perform continuous shift work alone.
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  6. Demonstrated proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet packages (eg Word, Excel).
  7. Sound knowledge of the principles of workplace health and safety from the worker's perspective with a demonstrated ability to incorporate these principles in day to day tasks.
  8. Possess a Security Providers Licence

Desirable:

  1. Experience in Control Room operations.
  2. Familiarity with the operation of a tertiary education institution.
