We seek to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to undertake research on an ARC funded project on pairings-based cryptographic protocols. The project will involve close collaboration between QUT and Royal Holloway, University of London.

Salary: $58,252 to $62 523 pa

DUTY STATEMENT

QUT's Information Security Institute (ISI) is a multi-disciplinary institute that builds real solutions for government, business and the community by undertaking research in technology, legal, policy and governance issues related to information security. The ISI is a dynamic research facility that integrates the research of the four founding faculties (Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering) to answer information security, information protection and technology policy challenges that confront business, government and the community as a whole.

Purpose of Position

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will provide research support for the project team of the ARC Discovery Grant “Cryptographic Protocols from Pairings: Proofs and Designs”. This position will involve close collaboration between QUT and Royal Holloway, University of London.

Organisational Relationships

The appointee will conduct research on behalf of the project team and be responsible to the project team leader who is a Professor in Information Technology and a Deputy Director within the Information Security Institute. The appointee will be expected to liaise with researchers and other key contacts both internal and external to the University. The position will also supervise research students in the Institute.

Duties include:

  • Plan and undertake research in pairings-based cryptographic protocols under the supervision of the project leader.
  • Collaborate with the research team to develop new research concepts.
  • Provide regular written and verbal reports as directed by the project leaders.
  • Prepare and publish research outcomes in relevant refereed international journals and present research outcomes at seminars and conferences as directed by the program leader.
  • Assist in the supervision of research students within the Information Security Institute.
  • Attend meetings with project team and other stakeholders.
  • Be accountable for complying with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  1. Completion of a PhD specialising in cryptography or submission of a PhD thesis for examination.
  2. Demonstrated competence in applying modern cryptographic proof methods.
  3. Written communication skills that demonstrate a track record of publishing in internationally refereed conferences and journals.
  4. Verbal communication skills that demonstrate an ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a research team, collaborating with other researchers and working under limited supervision.
  6. Knowledge of workplace health and safety principles which will enable the appointee to implement these principles at an appropriate level.

Desirable:

  1. Familiarity with cryptographic models for protocol design and analysis.
  2. Experience in providing guidance to research students and other team members associated with a project.
