The QUT Workforce Planning unit has been established to provide University managers with assistance and frameworks for planning future staffing. The unit also researches and analyses past staffing trends and provides a consultancy service.
Workforce planning is a continuous process that works across all levels of the organisation. Each of the three stages interlinks and gives some guidance to each of the other stages of the process.
Stage 1 – University Wide Strategic and Workforce Planning
QUT workforce planning is underpinned by the QUT Vision (Blueprint) and top level plans such as the People and Culture Plan. The University Workforce Plan sits below the top level plans and aims to operationalise the QUT Blueprint, People and Culture Plan and other top level plans to provide clear direction to aid decision making on the University’s workforce.
The key intent of the University Workforce Plan is to articulate QUT’s workforce priorities in order to consolidate and align current staff related strategies with the strategic objectives of the University.
Stage 2 – Faculty and Division Strategic Planning
The University Workforce plan provides the broad direction and HR Strategies for faculty and divisional managers to develop their own workforce plans in conjunction with their Faculty/Division strategic plans.
Faculty and Divisional workforce plans should respond to key areas of focus for faculties and divisions as identified in their strategic plans. This incorporates commentary on key staffing issues and incorporates faculty/division specific HR strategies.
Stage 3 – Faculty and Division Staffing Structure Formulation
Managers are asked to undertake a comprehensive workforce planning exercise during which their three year staffing proposals are submitted for consideration by the Vice-Chancellor. This is aligned with the QUT budgeting cycle.
