Workforce Review - 2010 Planning Round
The 2010 Workforce Review, commenced in August 2010, is conducted by Faculties/Divisions on an annual basis as part of the Strategic Workforce Planning cycle. The review aims to identify and detail strategies to support the key workforce priorities for the University and Faculties/Divisions.
The 4 key workforce priorities identified for the period 2011-2013 are:
- Academic Workforce Regeneration
- Workforce Profile (Growing Academic Capacity)
- Strengthening Research Capacity and Capability
- Strengthening Leadership Capability
The relevant KPIs, as outlined in the Blueprint, are included and considered as part of this review.
The 2010 review aims to strengthen a future focus, requiring the identification and implementation of workforce strategies to deliver on the workforce priorities 2011–2013 rather than reporting on past progress against priorities/targets.
Workforce strategies are considered within the framework of capacity, capability and culture.
Capacity: both actual number and deployment of positions;
Capability: knowledge and skills; and
Culture: fostering successful service delivery and engaging the workforce.
A list of the Workforce Strategies that may be considered to address key workforce issues is attached and additional advice is available from Human Resources.
Managing professional staff numbers have been identified as an important priority to be considered by Faculties/Divisions. It will require a planned approach and consideration of both short and long term strategies to successfully manage this key issue. An outline of the key requirements/issues to be considered is provided in the Managing Professional Staff Numbers document.
Workforce information/data relevant to key workforce priorities and KPIs are provided to each Faculty/Division annually, as part of the Workforce Planning Review, to assist in identifying key workforce issues and trends and provision is made to comment on the key workforce strategies to be considered/implemented to address workforce issues identified.
Human Resources is available to provide additional information and advice in relation to the workforce planning review process, key workforce trends and options for workforce strategies that may be considered to address key workforce issues.
Faculty/Division 2010 Workforce Reviews are due for submission on 29 October 2010.
