Looking for a temp?
With the exception of senior and academic positions, the University no longer has agreements with preferred suppliers for the supply of temporary or permanent placements. For current recruitment and selection procedures refer to MOPP B/4. If you require a temp, or a placement for a permanent position for a hard to fill role, you may approach an agency of your choice (see suggested list below) to assist you. Permanent placements through agencies require HR Director approval.
Before engaging an agency to fill a position, you should clarify the following:
- The types of positions the agency specialises in recruiting to
- The cost of hiring a temporary placement (i.e. hourly rate plus GST)
- The cost of converting a temp agency placement to a QUT employee (when preferred supplier agreements were in place, each agency had their release fee for placement depending on length of service of the temp, e.g. no fee after 12 weeks). It would be wise to ask these questions before engaging the agency for any placements so there are no surprises in the event that you place a temp in a fixed-term or ongoing position.
- The agency’s policies on screening, interviewing and testing staff.
- The agency’s policy on inductions of all staff placed at the University which should include ensuring its staff are familiar with the University’s statutes, policies, procedures and operations.
- The agency’s policy on replacement guarantees due to any staff mis-matches and if the placement leaves before the end of the agreed placement period
If an agency contacts you about a position you have advertised in the paper or on our website, remember that there will always be a fee if you accept candidates from an agency. Always ensure that you know all costs before signing an agreement or using the services of an agency.
