The Three Criteria
The criteria are:
- teaching and learning;
- research and scholarship; and
- academic and professional leadership.
Purpose of Criteria
These criteria describe the requirements for appointment at each academic level.
In developing selection criteria for a position, academic areas should build upon and add to these generic criteria to describe the actual requirements of the position and of the discipline area in which the position is located.
Examples of academic activities for each selection criteria which are appropriate to the level of appointment may be provided to further demonstrate the particular requirements of the position and of the discipline.
Weighting Selection Criteria
In describing the requirements of a position the selection panel may also weight the selection criteria to reflect each criterion’s level of importance to the performance of the position and to the strategic direction of a discipline.
Where the criteria are weighted the nominated weightings must be provided to potential applicants for the position.(refer 4.2.3 Selection Criteria)
Equivalent Experience
Where appropriate to the requirements of the discipline, equivalent experience, professional contribution and attributes demonstrated outside of the University sector may be recognised.
Developing Selection Criteria
Selection criteria developed in addition to those below should be
- based on the real requirements of the position,
- specific and not overlap and
- may include personal attributes required of the position such as ability to operate effectively as a team member, and communication and interpersonal skills.
Selection criteria should not be excessive in number.
The selection criteria provided below are consistent with the categories of responsibilities and duties described by the Position Classification Standards for each level of appointment.
Additional criteria or tailoring of these criteria to better describe a position’s requirements must also be consistent with these Standards.
