OUR PURPOSE
Teaching and Learning Support Services (TALSS) employs a multidisciplinary team of staff to deliver our services to QUT staff. TALSS provides leadership and support in the implementation of strategic University and Faculty initiatives to develop and enhance the quality of teaching and learning through academic professional development.
YOUR OPPORTUNITY
The Learning and Teaching Developer position is responsible for supporting the development and enhancement of learning and teaching at QUT, and will normally combine a particular emphasis in one Faculty with a range of cross-institutional contributions. The role liaises with all levels of staff, including senior staff, within the University.
Some of the key challenges of the role will be:
- Manage and prioritise the range of activities on which you are engaged to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
- Negotiation and consultation with diverse stakeholders in the areas of development and implementation of strategic aspects of learning and teaching practice.
- Providing a conduit for new ideas, best and emerging practice in important areas of pedagogical, technological and vocational developments.
- Achievement of aspirational university objectives that require significant levels of cooperation and coordination of effort outside your immediate area of control.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing specialist support across the University and designated Faculties, advising on and delivering professional development in key areas of teaching and learning, particularly high-quality teaching skills, assessment and feedback, and course and curriculum design and development.
- Working effectively with staff at all levels to promote the principles of learning and teaching in ways that raise the profile of, and enhance expertise in, learning and teaching.
- Develop high-quality resource materials to support professional development in teaching and learning and effective curriculum design and development.
- Contributing, where appropriate across QUT, to the development of teaching and learning capability in one or more of QUT’s current strategic priority areas and/or in a specialist area of teaching and learning.
- Working to the direction of the Director and Associate Directors (TALSS), and in liaison with fellow Learning and Teaching Developers and other colleagues in TALSS, the Division (TILS), and the University, to maintain a high level of knowledge of current developments in teaching and learning in the tertiary sector and their likely practical implications for QUT.
- Make a direct contribution to QUT policy formulation in a particular specialist area of teaching and learning (e.g. course and curriculum design and development, real world learning, educational leadership, early or mid-career academics, development of sessional staff, flexible learning).
- Take a leadership role in implementing and developing a specialist area of teaching and learning (e.g. course and curriculum design and development, real-world learning, educational leadership, early or mid-career academics, development of sessional staff, flexible learning).

Qualifications Required
To be assessed via applicant’s resume:
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of postgraduate qualifications in conjunction with extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience and proven management expertise.
Skills and Capabilities Required
You will be assessed on the basis of relevant capability and capacity for the following:
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary pedagogy as it relates to tertiary environments.
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in delivering professional development to academic staff in key areas of teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective partnerships and work in teams with academic staff at all levels in the pursuit of continuous improvement in learning and teaching.
- Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, presentation and communication skills, including the ability to establish positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality client service, and the ability to implement continuous improvement strategies within areas of responsibility.
- Demonstrated expertise and experience at an organisational level in policy formation and/or strategic implementation in a specific area of teaching and learning together with the leadership capabilities to implement and develop the work.
