Faculty of Business
The Faculty of Business is QUT's largest faculty, attracting over a quarter of the university's enrolments, and is also one of the largest business faculties in Australia. Through various collaborations with industry and professional bodies, the Faculty is a key player in the business community with extensive local and international links.
The Faculty of Business has achieved international recognition with the world’s leading accrediting bodies – AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS - for the quality of its degree programs and has a philosophy of continuous quality improvement. In keeping with this the Faculty is committed to the provision of high standards of service in the delivery of its teaching, research and executive education activities. Teaching and Learning Team
The Teaching and Learning team is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the delivery of teaching and learning in the Faculty of Business. The aim is to provide outstanding and proactive service in achieving the Faculty goals. The team is responsible for the delivery of a range of services and support including the improvement of teaching and teaching quality, academic administrative processes in course development and administration etc/, as well as student engagement. The group is responsible for maintaining the Faculty of Businesses international accreditation with AACSB and EQUIS.
DUTY STATEMENT
Position Purpose
The Faculty Coordinator – Teaching and Learning Projects will coordinate and guide the Faculty’s participation in Teaching and Learning Projects such as Transitions In, Work Integrated Learning, Transitions Out and Flexible Delivery. The Coordinator will provide academic leadership in curriculum development and implementation of curriculum as part of project objectives. The Coordinator will also design and deliver academic workshops to meet project objectives through improving the quality of teaching and learning experiences.
Organisational Relationships
The Faculty Coordinator – Teaching and Learning Projects is located in the Office of the Assistant Dean (Teaching and Learning) within the Faculty of Business and reports to the Assistant Dean for day-to-day supervision and performance planning and review. The Faculty Coordinator will also liaise and work collaboratively with staff across the Faculty and University and with key stakeholders both nationally and internationally to assist in meeting project objectives.
General standard
A senior lecturer is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of a school/faculty or other organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. An academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and/or professional activities.
Specific duties
Specific duties of the Faculty Coordinator may include:
Academic leadership
- Provide academic leadership in the initiation and development of curriculum to meet the objectives of Teaching and Learning projects such as Transitions In, Work Integrated Learning, Transitions Out and Flexible Delivery.
- Collaborate with academic teaching staff in developing, implementing and evaluating Teaching and Learning projects and initiatives.
- Oversee and lead the development of systems and administrative functions to support and embed the effective and efficient delivery of Teaching and Learning projects.
- Attend as appropriate School, Faculty, and University meetings to advance Teaching and Learning projects and initiatives across the Faculty.
- Represent the Faculty at institutional, national and international meetings and forums to advance the objectives of Teaching and Learning projects.
- Contribute to Faculty planning in integrating curriculum initiatives across the Faculty in collaboration with academic and professional staff.
- Provide advice and support to academic staff in relation to teaching and learning quality.
Research and scholarship
- Initiate and collaborate on research and scholarship relating to Teaching and Learning projects.
- Support academic staff in developing and conducting research relevant to quality teaching delivery and initiatives.
Teaching performance and leadership
- Provide leadership in teaching and learning development within the Faculty of Business.
- Conduct professional development workshops and seminars to promote innovative teaching methods, learning quality and curriculum development.
- Consult with and advise academic and professional staff in the Faculty in achieving Teaching and Learning Project objectives.
Professional leadership
- Substantial involvement in professional activity to promote teaching and learning quality.
Other
- Implementation of health and safety policies and procedures and the conduct of safe work practices.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Appointees must demonstrate an ability to undertake the duties prescribed for the position and must possess the necessary skills required for the position.
Subject to the preceding paragraph, to be appointed as a senior lecturer a candidate must meet the following selection criteria to the satisfaction of the selection panel and the authorising officer:
Qualifications
- Completion of a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline area or equivalent accreditation or standing.
Academic and Professional Leadership
- Demonstrated experience in providing leadership in an administrative role in a University or professional setting and record of successful interaction within these settings.
Teaching and Learning
- Record of experience in teaching effectively including ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning and provide leadership in teaching and learning projects.
Research and Scholarship
- Record of independent contribution to research/scholarship evidenced by publications and/or success in attracting research support.
Other skills and attributes
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety principles which will enable the appointee to implement these principles at an appropriate level.
An applicant who does not meet one or more of the selection criteria, but who is considered by the selection panel to have the potential to do so within the period of normal probation, or term of appointment may be appointed with the panel recommending participation in staff development during the probation period. In such cases the letter of offer of appointment shall state specific matters to which the staff development is to be directed.
Equivalent standing can be demonstrated by comparison of attainment in areas relevant to academic employment with the standard attained in a doctoral degree in the relevant discipline area.
