DUTY STATEMENT
Purpose of Position
To assist in the performance of a key research function in The Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies in support and delivery of outcomes for the Centre’s Social Entrepreneurship, Planned Giving and Philanthropy Projects. The Senior Research Assistant will provide administrative coordination, literature review, data collection and analysis in these projects.
Organisational Relationships
This position will report to the leader of the philanthropy project. The Senior Research Assistant will be required work in association with other researchers and liaise with research, administrative and academic staff of the University and other external organisations including funding agencies and project partners.
Duties include:
- Administer research tools in consultation with senior researchers including the straightforward analysis and evaluation of data.
- To undertake research using primary and secondary sources, in particular
- undertake qualitative research as required.
- undertake analysis of qualitative data and simple analysis of quantitative data.
- To conduct literature searches, reviews and retrieval and draft literature reviews.
- To draft and present reports and assist with the preparation of journal articles and presentations related to the Centre’s research projects.
- To contribute to the preparation of research grants.
- To provide administrative support to senior researchers and research projects.
- To work as a member of the Centre’s research team and contribute to the processes that enable the group to manage the work of the Centre and foster the Centre’s relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
- Completion of an Honours degree qualification in Business/Management/Social Science/Public Policy or a similar field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to contribute to the development of reports, correspondence and presentations.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, with experience in assisting with the conduct of interviews, and interacting with industry and government stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time efficiently.
- Ability to acquire new research skills.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Endnote).
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team and work independently as required.
Desirable:
- Experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Experience in qualitative research techniques.
