An opportunity exists for an Early Childhood Educator who has experience in working with young children and providing professional development in Early Childhood Education and Care (EC) and/or conducting research. We seek a person with expertise in areas that may include EC arts, EC sciences, leadership in EC and EC field studies.

Position Purpose

The appointee will teach in undergraduate, graduate and/or post-graduate programs taught in the School of Early Childhood; conduct activities that extend the scholarly research, publication and professional output of the School; and innovate and work collaboratively with staff of the School, Faculty and broader University community as required.

Organisational Relationships

The appointee will report to the Head, School of Early Childhood.

DUTY STATEMENT - LECTURER

General standard

A lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the University and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her scholarly research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

Specific duties

Specific duties of a lecturer may include:

Academic leadership

Research and scholarship

Teaching performance and leadership

Professional leadership

SELECTION CRITERIA - LECTURER

The appointee must demonstrate an ability to undertake the duties prescribed for the position and must possess the necessary skills required for the position. Applicants should have high quality, relevant academic qualifications, excellent professional standing and a track-record of positive engagement in the professional field (child care, kindergarten, preschool, and/or early years of primary).

Subject to the preceeding paragraph, to be appointed as a lecturer a candidate must meet the following selection criteria to the satisfaction of the selection panel and the authorising officer:

Other skills and attributes

An applicant who does not meet one or more of the selection criteria, but who is considered by the selection panel to have the potential to do so within the period of normal probation (three years), or term of appointment may be appointed with the panel recommending participation in staff development during the probation period. In such cases the letter of offer of appointment shall state specific matters to which the staff development is to be directed.

Equivalent standing can be demonstrated by comparison of attainment in areas relevant to academic employment with the standard attained in a masters or doctoral degree in the relevant discipline area.

A senior lecturer is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of a school/faculty or other organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. An academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and/or professional activities.
