QUT defines an Early Career Academic as a person who has been in an academic role for less than three years.

The growing creative industries sector requires individual creativity, skill and talent and offers diverse and rewarding career opportunities. QUT Music has a focus on contemporary and emerging forms of music practice and is characterised by a strong industry and practical focus. The music industry has undergone unprecedented change in the past five years with new channels for artists to reach and build audiences via Web 2.0 sites and other social media networks, opening up new possibilities alongside traditional major label and publisher models. QUT Music is committed to preparing music graduates to be successful in this rapidly changing world. In line with this commitment, we are revising our program to reflect up-to-the-minute approaches and to provide a unique opportunity within the Australian tertiary music sector for students to undertake a future-focused music program that reflects current and emerging practices.
