What sorts of things can I see an EAS Counsellor about?

Here are some of the things the EAS counsellors can help you in dealing with:

What qualifications do the EAS staff have?

The staff are registered professional psychologists who have particular skills and experience providing one-on-one counselling services to employees.

Is the EAS service confidential?

The service is completely confidential to the staff member. There is no need for a supervisor or anyone else at QUT to know that a staff member is using the service unless the staff member chooses otherwise

How can I contact an EAS Counsellor?

You can contact Assure Programs by phoning 1800 808 374, and making a confidential appointment. You can make an appointment directly during business hours. After hours you can leave a message and you will be contacted the next day to make an appointment. If you require urgent assistance outside business hours, telephone assistance is available via the 1800 number.

Do I have to tell my supervisor when I use an EAS Counsellor?

Not if you don't want to. You are encouraged to use the QUT flexible working hours scheme (Professional Staff), or leave entitlements if you wish to access the service during normal office hours. Alternatively, the Counsellor will arrange an appointment outside office hours if that better suits your needs.

Where is the EAS Provider located?

Assure Programs has offices conveniently located in Queen Street within walking distance of the city. Assure Programs also has offices in Milton, Springwood and Cleveland, plus associates located throughout the broader Brisbane region.

How much will use of the EAS cost me?

QUT will meet the cost of four visits of up to one hour per visit in a twelve month period. Any subsequent visits during the twelve month period will be at your expense. You may be able to claim a part refund from your private health insurance for the cost of any additional visits. Your fund can provide more information. QUT has negotiated a preferential rate for staff members who choose to have further consultations with Assure Programs, over and above those paid for by the University.

What do I need to take with me to the EAS Provider?

Just take your current QUT staff card to confirm your employment with the University.

What if I need other assistance after EAS Services?

The EAS Counsellor will be able to refer you confidentially to the other services which QUT provides free of charge for staff. Alternatively, the provider may refer you to services outside the University. You will have to meet the cost of these.

Can family members use the EAS?

If the circumstances involving another family member are affecting (or are likely to affect) your work, the EAS services may be extended to another family member.

Any services provided to other family members in this way count towards your yearly entitlement of visits paid for by the University. The Counsellor will advise you further on this after an initial consultation.

What happens with EAS accounts?

QUT has a "Whole of service" contract with Assure Programs, so no individual accounts are sent to QUT. The names of staff members who have used the EAS service will not be used in any reports supplied by Assure Programs to QUT.

Assure Programs will invoice you directly for any visits you arrange to pay for yourself.
