Program Description

This short course focuses on the importance and relevance of protecting the structures of the back. The course illustrates techniques to lift, push, pull and carry objects, thus providing staff with information to perform their job. In 2011 this training has been changed to incorporate a 45 minute training component followed by a pre-arranged specific worksite visit for a practical component.

For training dates for back care and manual handling please phone the Administrative Assistant (Health and Safety) on extension 89271 or visit the Health and Safety Training Calendar.

Who should attend?

Staff who can share the information with others (for example, Workplace Health and Safety Officer, Workplace Health and Safety Representatives), staff who perform manual handling tasks, and supervisors who need the skill to analyse and set the safe method of work.

*Note: Any staff member with a history of back pain is also welcome to attend
