The health and safety of staff, students, visitors, the public and the environment has to be considered by QUT Faculties, Schools and Divisions when purchasing, storing, transporting, using and disposing of chemicals. This should be done in accordance with a very wide range of Local, State and Commonwealth Legislative requirements.
Well defined risk management protocols and emergency response plans supported by a comprehensive chemical management policy, on site chemical hazard training, chemical databases, give rise to a high level of knowledge and understanding of chemical safety issues by the QUT community.
Systems for dealing with High Risk chemicals have been incorporated into the management processes at QUT reflecting Queensland Police, Industry and Community concern with regard to possible chemical diversion of a particular range of chemicals defined as precursors for chemical warfare and illicit drug industry.
