Process and timeline

Award Ceremony

The ceremony for the Vice-Chancellor's Awards will be held late October/November, 2008.
The time and location of the ceremony will be posted on this website as soon as available.

Eligibility

All staff members (except casual professional staff) are eligible to be nominated. Senior Staff may only be nominated in the Leadership category.

Nominations may be made for an individual or a team (within a local area or across areas): team nominations will not normally exceed 10 members.

Nomination process

All staff (academics, professional staff, supervisors and co-workers) and students are encouraged to recognise outstanding work by a staff member or a team of staff by nominating them for this award.

Any staff member or student may nominate an eligible staff member for the award. Self-nomination is not permitted.

Nominations must be made by 3 people - QUT staff members, students or members of the community - on the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence Nomination Form. All nominations must be signed and supported by each nominee's Head of School/Department and Executive Dean/Head of Division.

Nominations must include a statement (approximately 150 words) which demonstrates how the nominee's contribution supported the University's mission and goals and briefly states specific and identifiable reasons for the award nomination. This statement will be the basis on which the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence Committee will determine which nominees are requested to provide additional information to support their nomination. Statements should therefore be clear, concise, compelling and convincing.

Completed nomination forms are to be forwarded by 4.30pm Monday 30 June to:

HR Project Officer
Human Resources Department
Level 2, 126 Margaret Street.

Nominations are considered by the Vice-Chancellors Award for Excellence Committee. On the basis of the nomination statement the Committee will make an initial decision on those nominees for whom sufficient evidence exists to make an award. Nominees so identified will be invited to submit supporting evidence (a maximum of 10 pages) for their case. Nominators may assist the nominee in the preparation of this material.

Award recipients will be determined on the basis of the supporting evidence submitted.

Award recipients will be announced at the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence Ceremony to be held in October each year.

Reward

Each nominee will be recognised at the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence Ceremony, receiving a certificate of nomination and a gift.

Each award recipient will receive a commemorative plaque and a certificate detailing reasons for the award. Individual award recipients will receive up to $10,000: team recipients will receive up to $15,000 per team. Award money may be paid as a one-off non-superannuable salary payment or may be used at the recipient's discretion for work-related purposes (eg for equipment purchases or to offset costs of participation in conferences, seminars and training courses). Where team awards are made, award money will be divided evenly between team members. Relevant taxation will apply to any salary payment.
Any equipment purchased by the University with award money remains the property of the University subject to University policy. Any expenditure of award money (other than money paid as salary) should conform with the University's policy on appropriate expenditure of University funds (see MOPP G/5.1 and the Financial Management Practice and Procedures Manual).

Any award recipient who is no longer employed by the University at the time of the announcement of the awards will be issued an Award Certificate but will not be entitled to award money.

Award recipients will be listed on the HR website following the Award Ceremony.
